Palacio del Ayuntamiento (City Hall)

Built in the XVII Century, it became the Royal Palace prototype. Subsequently it was rebuilt after the earthquakes of 1717, and inaugurated officially in 1743. Its design and construction is attributed to the architects Luis Diez de Navarro, Juan de Dios Aristond, and Diego de Porres. Its façade is double-arched with Tuscan columns made of solid rock; the eastern wall has a carved stone finish. Today it houses the headquarters of municipal city authorities. Here you may also find the museums of Santiago and the Old Armaments.
