Palacio de Los Capitanes Generales ( Royal Palace of the Captain Generals)

Originally built in 1549, it was remodeled and enlarged on several occasions. During the colonial period, it housed the High Court of Justice, the Treasury, the Royal Chapel, the residence of the General Captain, Military headquarters of Dragoons, a jail, and the stables. In the center, above the high arch, appears the coat of arms used by Charles III, King of Spain. On the west end there is also the Santiago coat of arms, and on the east side a plate dated 1746 dedicated to the builder, Luis Diez de Navarro. At present, it houses the Gobernación Departamental (Office of the governor for the Department of Sacatepequez), the National Police Department and the office of Instituto Guatemalteco de Turismo -INGUAT.
