Church of San Agustín

This church was inaugurated in 1657; it became one of the most ancient temples in the city. Originally, its construction, gardens and orchards, covered the east side of the block completely, extending towards the Alameda Santa Lucia. After the damage caused by the earthquake in 1717, it had a slow reconstruction, 20 years later, the King authorized the government to cooperate with the reconstruction. Afterwards, it was damaged in 1751 and 1773 and this fact forced the Augustinians to leave Santiago. It was the first religious order that moved to the new capital.
