Royal and Pontifical University of San Carlos of Guatemala
|
Founded in January 1676, it is the third most ancient university in America. The first headquarters were at Colegio Santo Tomas de Aquino. The earthquake in 1751 left the construction useless then it moved in 1763 to a new building next to the Cathedral. It did not show many damages during the earthquakes of 1773 and operated until 1776, year in which it moved to the new Guatemala. Its design has Mudejar influence that may be observed in the use of mixtilineal arches as a part of this beautiful building. Today it hosts the Museo de Arte Colonial. |
