ACTIVITIES IN THE CLASS
During the lessons teachers use:
Participatory activities.
Oral and written exercises.
Group conversation and discussion to listen to other voices, pronunciation, and practice the Spanish that you are learning.
Music in Spanish to help the students improve comprehension and pronunciation skills.
EXTRA ACTIVITIES
"La Unión" sponsors various activities. Activities are scheduled after classes to allow more opportunities to speak Spanish and learn about the Guatemalan Culture.
These activities include:
Movies in Spanish
Salsa and Merengue (dance lessons)
Preparation of traditional Guatemalan food (ex: how to make tortillas)
Scrabble in Spanish and other table games (you can beat your teacher)
Soccer/Basketball games (teachers vs. students)
Demonstration of weaving typical Guatemalan clothes and explanation of each design
Visit to social projects, museums and Mayan ruins
Weekend trips to indigenous villages to see Mayan ceremonies
Safe tours of active volcanoes
Bicycle tours to areas usually not frequented by tourists: e.g. coffee and macadamia nut plantations and more.
*All activities are free (except transportation, entrance fees and bicycle rental).
SERVICES
UNIVERSITY CREDITS:
As part of our qualification, "La Unión" is affiliated and accredited by La Universidad Rural de Guatemala. This enables the student to apply for university credit, from two to six semesters worth. The fee is $25.00 for the inscription of the exam, the diploma and certificate have different costs, depending on what kind of credit you need. A minimum of 60 hours of Spanish lessons are required to have access to these exams for at least two credits. If you require more than two credits but you do not have a lot of time to spend in Guatemala, please contact us for more information. We will make special arrangments for you to obtain any amount of university credits.
